We are mistaken Not to think sin holds no mystery when it ties our soul. Sin holds no mystery, only soul ties. The real mystery is how a sinless God can come and live inside imperfect man, when no man can see God and live.¹
I recently stumbled across the God Equation in an online atheist science blog.
Wait a minute, You are pro-atheist?
Google is no respecter of persons. You typeth the words in, and the “answer” cometh.
Anyway… the other day, I stumbled across a blog about the discovery of something called the “God Equation.” Pretty big claim for a bunch of scientists, isn’t it? I am already biased in that department but viewpoint aside; it still is a pretty big accomplishment, God defined by a simple equation. Who’d have thunk it? I always believed God’s nature defied human explanation, hence our need for faith.
The title is a bit misleading, for it more accurately is an equation to describe the deliberateness of creation for the earth and moon and its orbit around our sun…
Scientists working in the UK have discovered robust evidence that the creation of the earth and moon was a deliberate act. The researchers found that the earth, moon, and beyond were engineered according to a specific equation. They have dubbed it the God Equation. The equation, which looks like this
shows a constant, unchanging relationship between the speed of light, the ratio between the circumference and diameter of a circle, and the radio frequency of hydrogen in space.
The author used roughly half his blog to quote the news blurb and the other half subsequently shredding the findings of the three men, one of whom is a former PhD student from Reading, and is a graduate of both Glasgow University and Robert Gordon University, and who was awarded the rare MSc with Distinction for his NASA space shuttle microgravity experiment. It ended up journeying aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavor as a full canister experiment. This only begins to tell his achievements. All in all, he is a very bright scientist. The other two men involved in the joint discovery are professional researchers.
The blog’s opening sentence indicated where he was headed but the thought crossed my mind “Is he serious?” My desire to see the intellectual elite enlightened briefly overruled my brain.
Okay, I was gullible, I admit it. I misread his thickly laced sarcasm for sincerity… for about one nanosecond.
Then, my more rational side realized where the author was going as he sprinkled in a few choice, more colorful words. Perhaps I should back up a bit and fill you in on some of the pertinent data…
The God Equation shows a direct link between the speed of light, the radio frequency of hydrogen in space, pi, and earth’s orbit, rotation and weight. As the possibility of the Earth having the exact required characteristics to fit the equation by chance is remote, and the equation has, in theory, been in existence since the beginning of the Universe, this means that the Earth’s orbit, rotation and weight must have been engineered to fit this equation.
Cumming states: “Although the ratio of a diameter of a circle to its circumference has been known for thousands of years, we have only recently discovered the hydrogen line, the speed of light, and rediscovered the megalithic measurement system. The advance of science, combined with the uncovering of ancient knowledge passed down through the ages, has only now made the discovery of the God Equation possible.”3
I suspect that someone learned in the field of biology and in academia, such as the author of this blog, most likely is a rationalist, since he professes on the site to be an “evolutionist” and “godless liberal” in one place and an “atheist” in another, but I still cannot seem to help feeling a deep empathy for his feelings.
I wanted to blurt out, “But haven’t you read Genesis 1:1? Or what about Psalm 104:19-20:
He made the moon for the seasons; The sun knows the place of its setting. You appoint darkness and it becomes night, In which all the beasts of the forest prowl about.4
I wanted to cry out “Have you not read Psalm 8?”
When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained; What is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him? Yet You have made him a little lower than God, And You crown him with glory and majesty! You make him to rule over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, All sheep and oxen, And also the beasts of the field, The birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea, Whatever passes through the paths of the seas. O LORD, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth! 5
I wanted to ask, “Have you not read Psalm 147:4-5? Or Isaiah 40:25-27?”
He counts the number of the stars; He gives names to all of them. Great is our Lord and abundant in strength; His understanding is infinite.6
To whom then will you liken Me, Or to whom shall I be equal?” says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high, And see who has created these things, Who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, By the greatness of His might And the strength of His power; Not one is missing. Why do you say, O Jacob, And speak, O Israel: “My way is hidden from the LORD, And my just claim is passed over by my God”? 7
I wanted to repeat the words God spoke to Job at the end of his severe trials…
Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said: “Who is this who darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me.
Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? Or who shut in the sea with doors, when it burst forth and issued from the womb; when I made the clouds its garment, and thick darkness its swaddling band; when I fixed My limit for it, and set bars and doors; when I said, ‘This far you may come, but no farther, And here your proud waves must stop!’
Have you commanded the morning since your days began, and caused the dawn to know its place, that it might take hold of the ends of the earth, and the wicked be shaken out of it? It takes on form like clay under a seal, and stands out like a garment. From the wicked their light is withheld, and the upraised arm is broken. Have you entered the springs of the sea?
Or have you walked in search of the depths? Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Or have you seen the doors of the shadow of death? Have you comprehended the breadth of the earth? Tell Me, if you know all this.
Where is the way to the dwelling of light? And darkness, where is its place, that you may take it to its territory, That you may know the paths to its home? Do you know it, because you were born then, Or because the number of your days is great?
Have you entered the treasury of snow, or have you seen the treasury of hail, which I have reserved for the time of trouble, for the day of battle and war? By what way is light diffused, or the east wind scattered over the earth? Who has divided a channel for the overflowing water, or a path for the thunderbolt, to cause it to rain on a land where there is no one, a wilderness in which there is no man; to satisfy the desolate waste, and cause to spring forth the growth of tender grass? Has the rain a father? Or who has begotten the drops of dew? From whose womb comes the ice? And the frost of heaven, who gives it birth? The waters harden like stone, and the surface of the deep is frozen.
Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades, or loose the belt of Orion? Can you bring out Mazzaroth in its season? Or can you guide the Great Bear with its cubs? Do you know the ordinances of the heavens? Can you set their dominion over the earth? Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, that an abundance of water may cover you? Can you send out lightnings, that they may go, and say to you, ‘Here we are!’?
Who has put wisdom in the mind? Or who has given understanding to the heart? Who can number the clouds by wisdom? Or who can pour out the bottles of heaven, when the dust hardens in clumps, And the clods cling together?
…Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said: “Shall the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him? He who rebukes God, let him answer it.”8
…but then I remembered all the times I have doubted God or despaired of hope in His great love for me, and my heart was convicted.
If we are truly honest, we must admit the many thoughts of unbelief which have tempted us as they crossed our minds. I’m not saying we have been guilty of unbelief as a way of life, but that we simply were tempted not to believe.
This is, after all, the way the world thinks.
If we are honest, we will admit we have thought as the world thinks, for we are human. This is the sin Israel was repeatedly chastised for by God as told in the Bible.
The old adage I repeated once earlier is still true,
You tell me you won’t believe until you see it, but I tell you, you won’t see it until you believe.
So how do we deal with the onslaught of the world’s mindset? There is only ONE way: Fill the mind with God’s Word until Truth overrules the truth. Remember, facts are subject to change, the truth is merely facts lining up in agreement, but Truth is something which supercedes all we know in our mind and subjects everything, including facts, to it, for Jesus is the Word and
“Thy Word is Truth.”9
Read: Genesis 1:1; Psalm 104:19-20; Acts 2:19-21; Psalm 8; Psalm 119:160; Psalm 33:4; Job 38-40:4. Journal your private thoughts.
Father God, Your Word is the entirety of Truth. You sent Truth to the earth to redeem man. Your Truth has come to live in the hearts of redeemed man. Please help me not to let my heart become hardened to Your Truth, for the sake of Your son, Jesus, and for the kingdom’s sake, amen.
